Haaretz and TheHigherLearning allege that an Israeli graduate student may have created a way to harness energy from the human body. Naomi Kizhner “designs jewelry that harnesses your body’s energy to generate electrical power…. The project includes three pieces: The Blinker, The E-pulse Conductor and The Blood Bridge.”
She is quoted:
I wanted to provoke the thought about how far will we go to in order to ‘feed’ our addiction in the world of declining resources.
While Jewelry is invasive, it is still wearable for the most part. There are currently dozens (if not hundreds) of implantable devices being researched and developed now. For example, “The Gates Foundation is supporting an MIT project to create an implantable female compu-contraceptive controlled by an external remote control.” (Yahoo) The article quips that the device “[g]ives losing the remote a whole new meaning.”
The rate of technological advancements is posing major challenges to our legal and ethical systems to keep apace. Further, a lot of the regulation, privacy, and other issues need to be addressed now.
